Light Vehicle Mod Plates (VSB14), Brisbane

Light vehicles are anything up to 4.5 tonnes GVM: cars, 4WDs, utes, vans, campervans and motorcycles. Complex modifications to these need a mod plate under the national code VSB14 before they’re legal on Queensland roads.

Imports and individual builds

Imported or hand-built? These have their own codes: LO1 for older imports, LO3 for personal imports, and LO2 (cars) or LO7 (motorcycles) for ICVs.

Do I need a mod plate at all?

Minor and basic modifications don’t need certification as long as the vehicle still meets the standards. Examples: a suspension lift up to 50 mm, or larger tyres adding up to 25 mm of ride height (75 mm combined). Anything beyond that, or anything that changes the engine, brakes, structure, seating or mass rating, needs a mod plate.

Planning a lift? Use the lift checker to see if your combination of suspension, body blocks and tyres needs LS10 certification.
