What is Modification Code S10?

S10 covers vehicle certification for concessional livestock loading. It ensures the vehicle can safely carry the permitted livestock load under the exemption scheme. This includes certification for:

✅ Prime movers
✅ Rigid trucks
✅ Converter dollies
✅ Dog trailers
✅ Semitrailers (including B-double and B-triple configurations)

To qualify, your vehicle must be equipped with a stock crate designed to carry cattle, sheep or pigs. Vehicles without livestock crates are not eligible.

Certification Requirements

To be approved under S10, your vehicle must meet all of the following:

✅ Manufacturer Ratings

  • Must retain or meet revised ratings certified under VSB6
  • Load limits on axles, brakes, tyres, chassis, suspension and steering must not be exceeded

✅ Advanced Braking Systems

Modifying vehicles with systems such as ESC, EBS, RSC, or VSC must be done cautiously. We ensure system performance is not compromised.

✅ Mass and Weight Distribution

  • Vehicle must be weighed (wet and dry) at a public weighbridge
  • S10 Laden Mass is calculated using simulated livestock weights:Cattle: 420 kg/m², Pigs: 280 kg/m², Sheep: 210 kg/m²
  • Weight distribution is calculated for each axle group to verify compliance

✅ Unladen Mass Requirements

  • Includes full fluid tanks (diesel, water, AdBlue), standard equipment and any additional load-bearing gear
  • If full tanks can’t be weighed, we apply adjusted fluid mass calculations using standard density values

Design Limitations

S10 imposes strict design limits:

Maximum deck numbers: 2 for cattle, 3 for pigs, 4 for sheep

Crate height and deck length must comply with dimensions in the Livestock Loading Scheme

Tow couplings must be certified and rated to suit the imposed load Tyres and rims must meet ADR placard requirements and not be overloaded

Certification Process

  1. Pre-check
Contact Autocert to determine if your vehicle is eligible under the scheme
  2. Inspection & Checklist
We perform a full vehicle inspection using the S10 checklist (rigid truck, prime mover, trailer etc.)
  3. Weight Verification
We assist with weighbridge procedure and ensure correct mass records
  4. Compliance Calculations
Full weight distribution, fluid compensation and axle load calculations are performed
  5. Certification Issued
We issue the S10 modification certificate and affix the S10 modification plate to your vehicle
