Seating, Seatbelts & Roll Cage Certification – LK Codes (QLD)
Make Your Seats, Seatbelts, Child Restraints & Rollbar's Compliant
🔒 What Are LK Codes?
The LK section under the National Code of Practice VSB14 governs modifications to seating systems, seatbelts, child restraints, and roll-over protection systems (ROPS) in light vehicles. If you’ve altered seating, added belts, or fitted a roll cage, you likely need LK certification to stay compliant with the ADRs and QLD Transport regulations.
🧾 LK Code Summary
Code | Modification Type |
---|---|
LK1 | Seat & seatbelt installation/removal (factory-type installs, capacity changes) |
LK2 | Seat/seatbelt anchorage certification (structural cert for new mounts) |
LK6 | Child restraint anchorage installation (CRAB bar, vertical post, universal frame) |
LK8 | One-off roll-bar or roll-cage (individual custom fabrication) |
LK9 | Design of commercial roll-bars, cages & ROPS (for fleets or commercial products) |
LK10 | Installation of certified aftermarket roll-bars, roll-cages & ROPS |
🔧 Codes LK3–LK5 and LK7 are not currently in use.
✔️ When Is Certification Required?
You’ll need LK certification if you:
- Install aftermarket or non-OEM seats or seatbelt's
- Add, move or reinforce seatbelt anchor points
- Add or remove child restraint anchorages
- Fit a roll-bar or internal cage, whether one-off or commercial
- Reduce the number of usable seating positions
🚫 When You Don’t Need Certification
You don’t need LK certification if:
- You’re installing a factory seat/seatbelt combo from the same make/model
- You’re not modifying anchor points, structure, or capacity
- You’re replacing with identical OEM equipment
